About

Husband, Father, Engineer, DIY’er, Saver, Man of Many Talents

What brought me here…

The far-too-early passing of both parents in my 20’s diverted my life’s trajectory and brought me here. Sure I had been “adulting” for a few years by then, but talk about getting a lesson in growing up fast! This is when I realized that how I spend my time is way more important than how I spend my money, and the importance of family.

Starting my own family and re-connecting on a deeper level with my only brother further opened my eyes to the need for a solution to the age old conundrum of trading time for money. As any logical DIY’er would do, I started off down an internet rabbit hole to see how I could fix it. Even if it wasn’t really broken.

What I want to share with you…

Join me if you share any of these same questions, as I explore their intricacies and document my experiences:

  • Why do I trade my time for money?
  • Does money buy happiness? Does money buy time?
  • Can I earn and save money to get my time back?
  • How much is enough money to have my time back?
  • Am I providing the greatest value with my time and money?
  • How do I spend all of my time with the ones I love?
  • Hell, who even are the ones I love and what is actually valuable to me?

My not so qualifications…

I’m just a normal guy working a soul crushing corporate 9-5 job with dreams of retiring early. I rarely get to directly employ my degree in Mechanical Engineering and instead like to think that all this education was only to become an expert in “learning to learn.” Therefore I’m qualified to do anything! As long as I can find the right people and information related to the task at hand.

For example, 3 days ago I googled “how to start a blog.” Now I’m a blogger!

I have no formal training in personal finance or accounting either. It was only as recent as 2019 that I actually started calculating my net worth. Since then I’ve created a strong budget, financial plan, and see the path to great benefits. So now I’m a personal finance expert!

I’m not certified or endorsed by any organization related to the repair or upkeep of: homes, autos, electronics, appliances, yard work, pets, babies, cooking, or folding laundry. But I get the job done!

As a natural born saver, I’m the prime candidate for minimalism and frugal living to achieve FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early), BUT I’m certainly not going to miss out on the joys of life in the process. I create a balance!
